Road moves further abroad with international charging covering via Hubject

Road and Hubject have signed a dual roaming agreement aimed at expanding EV charging accessibility across Europe. Through this partnership, Road joins Hubject’s intercharge network as both an eMobility Service Provider (eMSP) and Charge Point Operator (CPO).

At a glance

The collaboration begins with an immediate eMSP rollout, followed by a second phase that integrates Road's over 100,000 public charging stations into the Hubject ecosystem. Road currently operates with approximately one million charge points, so this integration represents a 10% increase. This dual-sided structure marks another step toward a more connected and interoperable European charging landscape.

Over the past several years, Hubject has established itself as a leading force in eMobility interoperability, building one of the largest roaming ecosystems for EV charging globally. For Road, the partnership significantly expands roaming accessibility for our drivers. Thousands of additional charging points across Europe are now available to drivers with an E-Flux by Road charge card and Road’s customers' charge cards.

This is applicable to the following regions:

  • DACH: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

  • The United Kingdom: comprehensive highway and urban charging networks

  • The Mediterranean: growing coverage across Italy and Spain.

A road trip from Germany to Spain is now significantly easier; drivers can charge their EV wherever coverage extends with the same ease as refuelling at a traditional petrol station.

What this means for drivers

For drivers, the expanded roaming coverage means access to a significantly broader network, as 10,000 charge points will be added to Road’s network. Instead of being limited to chargers directly connected to a single Mobility Service Provider (MSP), drivers can use a wider range of compatible charging points through one connected ecosystem.

To ensure a reliable experience, we prioritise stations in our app that provide real-time status updates. This helps drivers avoid 'ghost chargers' – stations that appear on a digital map but are actually out of service or unavailable in reality. To gain complete visibility of live, available stations, we always advise downloading the E-Flux by Road app.

What this means for CPOs

In a subsequent phase of this partnership, Road will integrate its network of over 100,000 public charging stations into the Hubject platform. This will expand the visibility and accessibility of our CPOs' infrastructure to a vast international driver. CPOs that use Road’s platform in the UK and the DACH area will benefit the most from this partnership, as more EV drivers are now able to charge at their stations internationally.

In practice, this helps CPOs increase charger utilisation by making their stations accessible to more users beyond their own direct customer base. It also reduces the complexity of managing multiple individual roaming agreements, as interoperability is handled through Hubject’s centralised roaming platform.

Why does this matter?

Ultimately, partnerships and interoperability agreements like this are aimed at improving the overall charging experience for EV drivers. As charging networks and mobility providers work more closely together, drivers gain access to a larger and more reliable charging ecosystem without needing multiple apps, subscriptions, or charging cards. For the industry, collaboration between roaming platforms, eMSPs, and CPOs plays an important role in reducing fragmentation across Europe’s charging infrastructure. By making charging more accessible and seamless across networks and borders, these partnerships help us support the continued adoption of electric mobility and create a more convenient experience for drivers wherever they travel.
