Safer EV charging with Road: fighting fraud through Credit Limits
Every tap, swipe, or scan to start a charging session represents trust – trust that the system works, and that payment details are safe. But as fraud grows in EV charging, that trust is being tested. Road’s new Credit Limits feature restores confidence for drivers and operators alike, adding a simple but effective layer of protection that makes every session safer by design.

At a glance
At Road, we believe that even if the technology looks simple, the systems behind it should be rock-solid. A charging card may seem basic, but every session carries trust and money that must be protected. That’s why we’ve introduced Credit Limits; bringing modern safeguards to EV charging and ensuring drivers and operators can rely on every transaction.
Introducing Credit Limits
To take a big step forward, we recently launched Credit Limits for charge card customers. This feature ensures that charging sessions can only continue up to a certain limit. Once that limit is reached, charging stops automatically.
But here’s the smart part: credit limits aren’t static. They can be automatically increased as the driver’s identity is verified. In other words, the more we know about you, the more we can trust you – just like in modern digital banking.
Why it matters
Fraud in EV charging is making headlines more and more. It’s a growing concern in an industry handling millions of transactions every day. By adding credit limits, we’re building a strong line of defence that protects both drivers and charging networks.
For drivers: greater confidence every time they plug in, with protection agains misuse that keeps charging simple and secure.
For operators: a safety net that minimises fraud-related losses and ensures their networks can scale without security concerns holding them back.
Credit Limits are already in use by E-Flux by Road customers and are now available for all Road Private Label partners. It’s a feature designed not just for one platform, but for the entire ecosystem of companies building EV infrastructure with Road.
Building a more secure future
Credit Limits are just one of the many steps we’re taking to create a more secure EV charging environment. From smarter authentication to fraud detection tools, we’re committed to ensuring EV drivers can charge with confidence – and operators can grow their networks without worry.
At Road, building EV infrastructure isn’t only about connecting charge points: it’s about creating trust, security, and effortless experiences for everyone on the road to electrification.
